Playoffs!?

Introducing Travel Guides by Travelsports

If you have logged into Travelsports in the past few days, and we hope you have, you may have noticed something new on our tournament, facility and region pages. We have added something called Travel Guides. Yep, we get it may sound redundant with our name being Travelsports, but we loved the quasi alliteration or … we just got lazy.

Travel Guides by Travelsports is exactly what it sounds like, a travel guide for your upcoming travel sporting event. We highlight the area that you are looking to visit and include the following information, along with an embedded map, that we think you will find useful on your trip.

  • Regions – On the region pages, the Travel Guide and in specific markets, sports medicine, bus/car rental.
  • Tournaments - On the facility pages, the Travel Guide will show you local restaurants, facilities associated with the tournament, things to do, sport shops, and in specific markets, sports medicine, bus/car rental.
  • Facilities – On the facility pages, the Travel Guide will show you local restaurants, hotels, things to do, sport shops, and in specific markets, sports medicine, bus/car rental.

We hope you find Travel Guides by Travelsports to be a useful feature of our site and we intend to gather feedback on fun/local restaurants, things to do, etc. that you can recommend to improve the Travel Guides.

2024 Health & Training Tips for Youth Athletes

As we step into 2024, prioritizing the health and well-being of youth athletes remains paramount. Here are some health and training tips tailored to ensure the holistic development of young sport athletes:

  1. Hydration is Key:
Proper hydration is fundamental for young athletes. Encourage them to drink water consistently throughout the day, especially before, during, and after training sessions.
  2. Balanced Nutrition:
Fueling young bodies with the right nutrients is crucial. Emphasize a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. Educate young athletes about the significance of each food group in supporting their energy needs and overall health.
  3. Adequate Rest and Sleep:
Underrated but essential, proper rest and sleep are critical for recovery and growth. Ensure that young athletes establish a consistent sleep routine, aiming for 8-10 hours of sleep per night.
  4. Age-Appropriate Training Programs:
Tailor training programs to the specific age and developmental stage of the athlete. Focus on skill development, coordination, and overall fitness. Avoid excessive specialization in one sport too early, as diversifying activities can enhance overall athleticism and reduce the risk of overuse injuries.
  5. Mind-Body Connection:
Incorporate mindfulness and mental health practices into training routines. Techniques such as meditation, visualization, and deep breathing can enhance focus, reduce stress, and contribute to overall mental well-being.
  6. Injury Prevention:
Prioritize injury prevention through proper warm-up routines and cooldown exercises. Teach young athletes the importance of stretching and flexibility to improve range of motion and reduce the risk of injuries.
  7. Fun and Enjoyment:
Keep the focus on enjoyment and fun in sports. Foster a positive attitude toward physical activity to ensure that young athletes develop a lifelong love for being active. Encourage them to try new sports and activities to discover their passions.
  8. Educate on Recovery:
Teach youth athletes the importance of proper recovery strategies. This includes cooldown exercises, stretching, hydration, and incorporating rest days into their training schedules. Emphasize that recovery is a crucial part of the overall training process.
  9. Positive Role Modeling:
Be a positive role model for young athletes. Demonstrate healthy habits, good sportsmanship, and a balanced approach to competition. Encourage a supportive and inclusive team environment.

By prioritizing these health and training tips, we can help shape a generation of youth athletes who not only excel in their chosen sports but also prioritize their well-being for a lifetime of active and healthy living.

Sports Psychology for Kids: Mental Skills For Young Athletes

By Eli Straw

The field of sport psychology is often associated with high-level athletes. Many universities and professional organizations have mental skills coaches on staff who work with the players.

Those who don’t have access to a sport psychology professional within their team often seek help from private coaches who can help them with their mental game. But again, this tends to be centered around professional, college, and high school athletes.

But what about youth athletes?

Is there such a thing as sport psychology for kids? The answer is yes! In fact, in my work, I’ve found it incredibly helpful to begin working with athletes when they’re young.

Now, there are differences in the minds of older athletes and younger athletes that must be taken into account when the work is being delivered…both in ways that make working with younger athletes easier and in ways that make it more difficult.

But the bottom line is that sport psychology is crucial for kids, and the earlier young athletes can build mental toughness, the better. And so, in this article, you will learn why sport psychology is important for kids and some strategies you can use to begin teaching mental skills to young athletes.
