Honnen Ice Arena is now open to Colorado College students, faculty, and staff who are authorized to be on campus and use campus facilities. We are offering freestyle, stick and puck, and recreation skates Monday - Friday from 12 - 1:15 pm. Please check the calendar to find specific programming times.

We are making some changes to our Covid response protocols to increase safety and will now be requiring all skaters to make a reservation before being allowed to skate at Honnen.

This is the first phase of our re-opening. We are taking many precautions to reduce health risks to our patrons. Masks are required to enter and move about the facility and social distancing guidelines are in place.

We will continue to be closed to all outside Colorado College use and rentals through the Fall 2020 Semester. A decision on the Spring 2021 semester will be made at a later date

The Venue
Honnen Ice Arena, located just east of the El Pomar Sports Center and the Schlessman Natatorium and west of the Worner Center, was built in 1963 at a cost of $750,000 by architects Lusk & Wallace of Colorado Springs. It opened on Feb. 5, 1966.

It was named for the main donors: the Edward H. Honnen family of Denver. The facility underwent a considerable improvement during the spring of 2012 as part of the three-phase, $27 million renovations and new construction project at the El Pomar Sports Center.

The campus crews took advantage of scheduled down time at Honnen Ice Arena to remove decades-old infrastructure supporting antiquated refrigeration systems used for both campus and ice rink activities. The new design replaced the 5,000-pound ammonia-based refrigeration system with an environmentally friendly 507A refrigerant and calcium chloride brine loop.

Both hockey and figure skating are featured at the rink. An individual can find a program to suit their needs from learning to skate to hockey pick-up games and league games.
