Hector Arena
The Hector Arena is operated and managed by the Hector Arena Commission. Founded in 1972, the Hector Arena is an indoor rink, seasonally operated. Programs offered include adult and youth ice hockey, pick-up hockey, public skating, lessons and skating parties. A canteen and skate sharpening services are available onsite.
Helmets are mandatory for everyone.
Walking at the Rink
The cooler weather is upon us, continue your walking routine at the Hector Arena inside Monday to Friday. Why not drop by with a friend.
Donations accepted. Any changes to this shedule due to hockey tournaments or school events will be posted on the bulletin board and on our facebook site.

Skating Parties
Have the COOLEST party ever. The Hector Arena is a great place to hold your child's birthday party. Parties coincide with Friday's public skating time (3:00 to 4:50 pm) and must be pre-booked by arena staff. Groups receive a private room to put on skates and hold their party.

Trails
Jitney Trail - A registered Trans Canada Trail
Take a walk along the Jitney Walking Trail following the Pictou Waterfront. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy a three-kilometre trail to the site where the ship Hector made its historic landing in 1773. Park benches are available, allowing you to take in the panoramic views. Along the way, you can learn about Pictou through interpretive panels and views of the site of the Hector settlers' landing. The Jitney Trail connects directly to the Trans Canada Trail System for more avid hikers.
Blue Route
The Blue Route provincial cycling network will connect Nova Scotia’s communities through designated cycling routes on secondary highways with paved shoulders, low traffic volume roads, hard-surfaced trails, and city streets with bicycle infrastructure. Once completed, the Blue Route will comprise a 3000km network of signed bicycle routes, connecting riders with communities across the province.
The first section of the Blue Route was launched and opened in August 2015 beginning on Pictou’s Waterfront. This included the installation of Blue Route signs on a segment of the provincial road network and on a short segment of the Jitney Trail - which is managed by the Town of Pictou. This segment of the entire planned route is 56 km in length, inclusive of 53km on Provincial Roadways and 3km on the Jitney Trail. The opening of the first section of the Blue Route was a historical event celebrated on our very own Jitney Trail.

Community Use of Schools
School facilities are valuable community assets and are available to the community for educational, cultural and recreational purposes. Space at the schools in the Town of Pictou is scheduled for these purposes through Pictou Recreation and Parks. If you or your group is interested in booking a time and space please contact 485-4372.
Pictou Tennis Courts
Located at Broidy Park, Wellington Street. Youth and Adult Lessons are offered during July and August. Annual memberships are available. For information call Pictou Recreation and Parks. Tennis Courts are managed by the Highland Tennis Association. Visit Highland Tennis Association on Facebook.
Caledonian Curling Club
The New Caledonian Curling Club was formed in 1852 (boasting the third oldest in Canada). The Club has three sheets of ice, clubroom/bar, kitchen and locker-rooms. Brooms and sliders are available for curler usage. A perfect way to pass a Nova Scotian winter. Curling programs offered include:
