UMass Boston

The Edward T. Barry Ice Rink

The home of UMass Boston men's and women's ice hockey the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink is perhaps one of the most impressive ice rinks in the New England Hockey Conference. Having received a fresh coat of paint this past summer, the ice rink seats up to 1,000 fans and is also home to both program's coaching staffs. Both teams have their own respective locker rooms with training room and weight room facilities located in the same building. Webcasts of every home game are available through the Beacons Broadcast Network allowing fans the opportunity to watch their Beacons even if they cannot attend a game.

The ice rink officially underwent a name change from Beacons Ice Arena to the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink in the fall of 2016.  Named after one of the all-time greats in New England hockey, coach Barry was a leader both on and off the ice at Boston State College and at UMass Boston.  The naming of the ice rink marked the official kick-off to a $5 million renovation campaign that will make it the best hockey facility in all of Division III.

In the summer of 2012 UMass installed a temporary multi-purpose floor that allows a variety of different sports especially basketball and volleyball to played in the ice rink.  The floor will be removed in August to make way for the laying of the new sheet of ice and will be laid down in the spring following the conclusion of the ice hockey seasons.
