Jane Sanders Stadium at a Glance

Jane Sanders Stadium officially opened on March 24, 2016, further elevating Oregon softball as one of the premiere programs in the nation.

Spurred by $16 million in gifts from UO alum Bob Sanders and named in honor of his late wife, The Jane has quickly established itself as one of the very best facilities in the NCAA. In the spring of 2019, FloSoftball named Jane Sanders Stadium the top softball stadium in the country.

Bob and Jane Sanders met at the University of Oregon, where Bob, class of 1951, was a fullback on the football team and Jane, class of 1950, was a cheerleader. Bob and Jane enjoyed great success in the lumber industry, with businesses in California, Oregon and Washington.

In addition to Sanders’ $16 million gift, former softball head coach and UO administrator Becky Sisley announced a matching gift challenge for the stadium fund on May 1, 2015. Sisley matched donations totaling $268,000, for the stadium project until Oct. 1. SRG was the architect and Howard S. Wright was the general contractor.

JSS holds a capacity crowd of 2,500, with 1,500 reserved chair back seats around the main bowl and another 1,000 permanent outfield bleacher seats in center field, a general admission section dubbed "The Bob." The field is artificial turf with a real dirt infield, and the stadium's uniquely-shaped roof covers more than 500 seats behind home plate. A state-of-the-art video board is in right field to give fans the ultimate gameday experience and a smaller scoreboard was installed down the third-base line for fans sitting in the center field bleachers, in addition to the modern restrooms and concession facilities.

The Jane includes a team meeting room, locker room, film room, training room and other amenities on and underneath the concourse. The Sports Performance Center (SPC) was erected down the left field line next to Oregon’s bullpen, giving the Ducks one of the nation’s best indoor hitting facilities right at their home stadium.

JSS replaced Howe Field, which was originally built in 1936 as the home of Oregon baseball and was converted to a softball stadium in 1987. In Oregon's final game at Howe Field, against NC State on May 23, 2015, a record 2,061 fans packed the old stadium. Teardown of Howe Field began on May 26, 2015, to begin the construction of Jane Sanders Stadium. Oregon broke ground on the new stadium in a ceremony on June 4, 2015.

Packed for Postseason
The Ducks welcomed over 15,000 fans to Jane Sanders Stadium for six NCAA postseason games in 2018. The Jane was packed with a sellout crowd of 2,522 for all three days of regionals and all three super regional games vs. Kentucky. Since opening in March 2016, Jane Sanders Stadium has played host to three straight NCAA Regionals and three straight NCAA Super Regionals.
