Hart Center Arena

The Hart Center Arena serves as the home for the Holy Cross men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball teams. In the fall of 2016, the arena was renovated with a new state-of-the-art Robbins Bio-Channel Star Flooring System, and new retractable bleachers for the entire lower bowl. In addition, a Schelde Sports basket system was installed, which is currently used in over 100 countries around the world. Other upgrades within the arena include a new Bose sound system, refinished ceilings and new banners. New locker rooms, film rooms and coaches offices have also been added. 

The building opened in 1975 with a basketball arena and ice hockey rink. In 1983 a swimming pool, rowing tank, training room and locker rooms were added to the facility. The Smith Wellness Center then opened in 1997, providing space for varsity and community exercise and training.

Since the opening of the building, the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex has provided a tremendous home court advantage for the Crusaders. The 3,536 seat capacity has been exceed often, as standing room only crowds of 4,000 make the Hart Center Arena into a loud and intimidating playing environment for opponents.

Some of the great teams who have faced the Crusaders on their home floor are Connecticut, Georgetown, Ohio State and Providence on the men's side, and Connecticut, Maryland, Stanford and North Carolina on the women's side.

Hart Center Namesake: Without question one of the most well-known Jesuits ever at Holy Cross, the Rev. Francis J. Hart, S.J., created and served as the director of Holy Cross' intramural program for more than 40 years. His passion for athletics, both recreational and at the varsity level, were a part of the fiber of Crusader athletics for decades. In recognition of his many contributions to the Holy Cross athletics program, the Hart Recreation Center was named in his honor in 1975. He passed away in 1986.
Luth Athletic Complex Namesake: The Luth Athletic Complex is named for John E. Luth '74 and Joanne Chouinard-Luth, who donated $32.5 million to the College in 2015 towards renovating and expanding the athletics complex. John E. Luth is the founding partner, chairman and chief executive officer of Seabury Group LLC, the preeminent global aviation advisory firm. Dr. Joanne Chouinard-Luth practiced dental medicine in Chicago for 30 years.
